I learned it cannot be used to put files, for example, into the home directory once the OS is loaded. If you are needing a particular file once you are booted into the OS you would use persistence. And to address your other post, you need to boot into the OS using persistence. Then add the file you want to be there upon subsequent boots. That will store it in the persistence image, which will be read the next time you boot and your file will still be there.
