Ventoy loads minimal grub shell on UEFI
#1
Photo
Hello,

Ventoy works perfectly with my 32-GB Pendrive but I haven't been able to use it from my hard disk.

I have 2TB HDD where I created a FAT32 partition installed Ventoy inside that partition.

But when I boot, it just shows a minimal grub command-line interface, nothing else.

Here is a picture:

I know there is an issue about the legacy BIOS limit, posted here: https://ventoy.net/en/doc_legacy_limit.html

However, I'm running on a UEFI setting in GPT scheme.

Is there any way to fix this?

My CPU Spec:
-----------------
Motherboard: Asrock A-320M
CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 (2200G)
HDD: 2TB Seagate Barracuda

Hello,

Sorry to give you a late response. I wasn't at home for a long time and now I am back. Here is the result what you wanted me to show you:

You can not install Ventoy manually bu just create a partition.
You must use the standard Ventoy install program to install Ventoy.
Ventoy can not installed to a partition of a Disk.
Ventoy need to occupy the whole disk, so when you install Ventoy to a disk, it will clean all the data in the disk,  recreate partitions and format them.

I have lots of important data on my 2TB hard drive. I tried in another way. I installed it in my pendrive, took a backup of EFI partition with a program called "AOMEI Backupper" which is similar to Clonezilla. Then restored the pen drive partition to my hard drive and it still didn't work.
Is there any way to install Ventoy without not deleting all partitions?

Hello, it worked, but one problem:
  • It only searches for ISO files in the previous partition where Ventoy bootloader has been installed. It doesn't search for ISO files in other partitions. I tried to manually set VTOY_DEFAULT_SEARCH_ROOT directory via web-base ventoy plugin interface, but if I select other partitions, it says " The Folder Path Is Invalid"

Yes, by default Ventoy only search ISO files in the 1st partition of the USB stick.
But you can press F2 to browse ISO files in other partitions of the USB stick or even in local disks.
