Unable to run iso's - larry29936 - 06-02-2021

I'm running Ventoy-1.0.44 installed on a known good USB (partition type GPT). I've copied 4 different Linux iso's and a Win10 iso to the USB. All iso's will boot in either UEFI or BIOS mode. When I boot from the USB I can see all of them, but when I select any of them all I see is a black screen. I even waited 10 minutes, nothing happens.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

Thanks in advance.

Which ISO EXACTLY?
How are you booting to ventoy - UEFI or BIOS mode?
How do you know 'All iso's will boot in either UEFI or BIOS mode'
What is your system mainboard and CPU?

ISO's:
  Linux Mint 20.1 Cinnamon
  Linux Mint 20.1 Mate
  Linux Mint 20.1 XFCE
  Linux Mint 20.1 LMDE

  Win10_21H1_English_x64

Booting in UEFI

I've booted each of them in both modes burned to individual USB's

System:    Host: larry-ThinkPad-T550 Kernel: 5.8.0-53-lowlatency x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: Cinnamon 4.8.6
          Distro: Linux Mint 20.1 Ulyssa

I should mention that the USB is 128GB. I'm trying to consolidate an eventual total of 12 ISO's.

I assume your Linux ISOs are 64-bit
It could be that as you are UE|FI-booting, the video output is actually going to another video port and not the one your monitor is connected to.
Does the USB drive LED flash after selecting the ISO (i.e. it is loading the ISO into memory and running)?
Try Ventoy in text mode (F5) before you boot to an ISO?

RE: Unable to run iso's - larry29936 - 06-02-2021

Steve, I tried the (F5) mode on this machine ... no help. I decided to try the USB on my desktop machine, HP Envoy, and the USB worked properly. I selected an OS and it took me to its startup screen. The problem, therefore, has to be a setting on this machine. I'll double-check and let you know what I find.

Updated bios to 2019 version:

Machine:  Type: Laptop System: LENOVO product: 20CJS1ET00 v: ThinkPad T550 serial: R90JX19M
          Mobo: LENOVO model: 20CJS1ET00 v: SDK0E50510 WIN serial: W1KS62L10GV UEFI: LENOVO v: N11ET51W (1.27 )
          date: 11/12/2019

Still won't boot the iso's on this machine.

Suggestion: try formatting to pendrive as a liveUSB with a single one of those ISOs (e.g., with UNetBootin) and test if you're able to boot alright from it.

Jumping in here to say that I can replicate the problem on a Lenovo T450s (20BX series) and T550 (20CK series).   Both computers are of the same "generation" as the T550 the OP originally posted.  Both computers are running the latest UEFI / BIOS for their respective models (both circa 2019).   Ventoy v1.0.45 ....

On both computers, from Ventoy I've tried booting a customized WinPE ISO as well as the standard (unmodified) Windows 20H2 install ISO.   Both computers display a black screen and never progress after the ISO is selected from the Ventoy interface.  Both computers boot without issue from a RUFUS created USB, generated from either ISO.

I've used the exact same Ventoy USB to boot a T520, T530, T460, and T570, and a couple HP Elitebooks without issue.  So I know the Ventory USB drive generally works without error.

For standard (unmodified) Windows 20H2 install ISO, you can try WIMBOOT mode.
