[SOLVED] xubuntu 8.04/8.10 not booting - ZloboMiR - 02-24-2022 Hello, Thank you for this wonderful software and for activating my account! I have sent already a message via the "Contact Us" link, but it seems to be lost. So here it is again: I am playing with an ancient IBM 6269 N2G (Intel P3 733MHz, 256MB RAM). When I tried to boot xUbuntu 8.04 and 8.1, after the startup screen (Try xUbuntu ...) I got "Segmentation fault" and "Permission denied" errors. I checked the md5 sums of the isos, they are correct. Also tried on a modern PC, errors are the same. However version 9.10 boots fine. Thank you again in advance for your time. Best regards, RE: xubuntu 8.04/8.10 not booting - longpanda - 02-24-2022 Which ISO file did you test? RE: xubuntu 8.04/8.10 not booting - Steve2926 - 02-24-2022 Give exact name of ISO, size and download URL Your PC has a 32-bit CPU, so presumably you have downloaded one of the 32-bit 8.10 ISOs ? xubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386.iso Fails! Ctrl+r grub2 mode does not boot ISO at all. F1 (mem) works (but may not work on 256MB system as not enough RAM?) grubfm (partnew) works, E2B works. https://linux.softpedia.com/get/System/Operating-Systems/Linux-Distributions/Xubuntu-Intrepid-Ibex-39149.shtml RE: xubuntu 8.04/8.10 not booting - ZloboMiR - 02-24-2022 Hello, This is the isos I have tried: http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/releases/xubuntu/releases/8.04/release/xubuntu-8.04.1-desktop-i386.iso and http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/releases/xubuntu/releases/8.10/release/xubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386.iso I believe RAM size is not the issue, as the situation is the same on a machine witn Intel i5 and 4GB of RAM. Anyway, I managed to install and run Antix, so please treat this one as low priority... Best regards, RE: xubuntu 8.04/8.10 not booting - longpanda - 02-24-2022 Ventoy does not support xubuntu 8.04/8.10 which are too old (the latest xubuntu is 21.10) It's just like that Ventoy support Windows, but must be Windows 7+ (Windows XP is not supported). Happy coding! Best regards, RE: xubuntu 8.04/8.10 not booting - Steve2926 - 02-24-2022 Did you try F1 or not? RE: xubuntu 8.04/8.10 not booting - ZloboMiR - 02-24-2022 (02-24-2022, 03:45 PM)Steve2926 Wrote: Did you try F1 or not? When exactly I have to press F1 ? RE: xubuntu 8.04/8.10 not booting - Steve2926 - 02-25-2022 F1 is a hotkey used in Ventoy. So obviously you do not press F1 when the PC is off or in Windows/Linux. You would press F1 once you have booted to Ventoy. Just to help you... 1. Boot to Ventoy 2. Press F1 - [Memdisk] should appear at the bottom of the menu 3. Select your ISO file and boot. RE: xubuntu 8.04/8.10 not booting - ZloboMiR - 02-25-2022 Thanks for the instruction. I pressed F1 in Ventoy and [Memdisk] in red appeared at the bottom of the menu. Next I selected the xubuntu 8.10 iso and pressed enter and... I got "No ramdisk image specified!". |
