Why are all uefi botable isos not supported out of the box
#1
There is something i have never understood about using isos with ventoy

What exactly interferes with ventoy supporting all UEFI bootable isos out of the box?

Why some and not others?

For example, Minitools data recovery 9.2 works perfectly with ventoy uefi boot while 10.2 fails to....

and what tweaking is involved in making these isos compatible and who does it?

can be do it ourselves and is there a guide to it?

I am not the ultimate techie but am a great fan of Ventoy from its inception

Firstly, we should known that, Ventoy emulate the ISO file as a CD/DVD and boot it.
So, if the ISO file can not boot from CD/DVD in UEFI mode then Ventoy will not boot it.
So we can test the ISO file firstly with a VM(e.g. VMware/VirtualBox). Connect the ISO file directly to the CD/DVD of the VM and set the VM to UEFI mode and finally boot it.
If it can not boot, then it's the problem of the ISO file itself.

Secondly, the emulation mechanism depend on the UEFI firmware, so we should make sure the the UEFI firmware in the computer supportes such mechanism.
You can test many different ISO files(e.g. Ubuntu/Redhat/Arch ......)  if none of them boot OK, then it may may be the problem of the UEFI firmware in your computer.

If all the above done, and the ISO file indeed can not boot by Ventoy. Then it may be Ventoy issue.

[V.e.n.t.o.y] No problem.
iso file problem.

It works if I make the iso file uefi bootable.

And....

For some iso files the launcher works.

What's not working is not the [V.e.n.t.o.y] issue, it's the boot.wim file issue in the iso image.

Ventoy can boot from a .wim file - so just extract the .wim file and copy it to the Ventoy USB drive.

ISO-images are loaded without problems, and *.wim images are not loaded, ventoy simply does not see them, not on a flash drive, not in explorer.

Follow the instructions here if you want to boot (load) the wim file
