Failure to boot into USB thumb drive, secure boot? - Rick - 01-18-2024

I have been told that if I put Ventoy and the W'11 iso file on a USB thumb drive (along with other recovery tools) that I can boot a version of W'11 and run it from the thumb drive to recover a failed boot from my W'11. I have not had any problems with W'11, but I wanted to be prepared before it does.

I Installed Ventoy onto a USB thumb drive and then put an .ISO file of W'11 on it.

When I booted into the thumb drive, I got this error message: "Verification Failed: (0x1A) Security Violation" and then followed by a Shim UEFI key management screen.

In another forum, someone talked about secure boot needing to enroll the key. What does that mean?

Thanks.

Rick.

You need to enroll the key to the Secure Boot system.

Here is a nifty article on how to do it: https://www.technewstoday.com/ventoy-secure-boot/

Once enrolled it will allow ALL Ventoy boot drives to boot from that PC, at least until or unless the key is changed for some reason, then you will have to enroll it again on any PC you have already done so to.

Thanks! Nifty indeed. Wink
